How to configure CD RW Drive Speed

I have a HP 9600i SCSI CD RW drive.

NeroLinux reports it is only capable of 4x writing, but I am sure it can do 8x.

I figure that my Debian Sarge has auto-detected this drive to be only 4x. Is there somewhere that I can correct this?

Thanks in advance for any help

You set the CD-RW write speed in the application program which in this case is NeroLinux.

NeroLinux will not let me select a speed higher than 4x. But the drive is acapable of 8x and 12x. I wonder where NeroLinux is getting this incorrect info from, I thought it might be getting this info from elsewhere in my Debian system.
