Exclamation How do I resolve this emergency mode issue

Hi there, Currently taking an intro to linux course and I got to a point where we were creating two new partitions. When I had entered the values for my start and end of the partition it said it exceeded the availability of GB. I decided to test my luck and do a write through and reboot, now my log in screen is saying I am in emergency mode. I have tried all the suggested bash prompts it suggested on the screen, but is saying it does not recognize the command. Any suggestions? I have tried rebooting and powering off the vm machine but am having no luck and I cant continue with completing my lab. I am also concerned that if I completely wipe all the work I have done I will fall behind and have to do everything all over again.

Hi, welcome to LQ!

It's quite possible that when you re-partitioned your drive it created new UUID's for the partitions.

Your boot loader is using the old UUID.

On a bare-metal install, I would use blkid (block ID) to list all the uuid's and the edit grub boot parameters and boot (f10)

after that you will need to edit grub again,

but to make it stick for a reboot you'll need to edit /etc/default/grub and then execute update-grub.

Using a Virtual Machine, I hope this gives you a starting place.

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

What utility did you use to create the extra partitions?
Did you resize any existing partitions?
Did you format the new partitions with a filesystem?

Continuing after the warning message was a bad idea but there is not enough information to know if it can be easily repaired. If you answered yes to the questions then you might have to start over. Part of the process is learning from your mistakes.

Welcome to LinuxQuestions

As other community members have pointed out it would be a great deal more helpful for us to know a few more items.

1.What partitioning scheme did you nus
2.If you can't get into the machine in question, could you possibly ask a fellow classmate?
