Lightbulb How do I invoke desktop applications from the terminal command line on raspberry pi?

I'm currently SSHing into my Raspberry Pi and have figured out how to control ports sound and color. but havent the foggiest how to invoke desktop and desktop applications from the command line. Can anyone enlighten me please?

I guess I'm looking to run my Pi's desktop remotely on my remote Macbook http://hostname.ddns.net:8000.

confirm that X11 forwarding is enabled in ssh on the RPi. restart ssh server, connect with: the forwardx11 flags. See my signature for setting up a ssh config file to make that simpler.

Forwarding x requires a x11 server running on the Mac which is no longer included plus you need a display manager (xdmcp) if wanting to forward the entire desktop.

In addition to x11 forwarding you can also use VNC.

Good to know about the x11 forwarding in OSx. Last Mac i used was closed to 6 years ago sadly. Loved my macs, but their hardware was crap and kept failing to the point of no return. Oh well.

Glad x11 is still available even if OSx no longer ships with it by default.
