How do I install Safari and use it on my Knoppix os?

I have little linux expeariance and for school I need to use safari web browser for my online classes. I have installed the browser but it is in wine and won't come up when I try to use it. Would it be easier for me to partition my hard drive and install some windows os like xp, or can this browser work on linux?

You could run windows in a virtual machine.

Kind regards

I'm just wondering what sort of course would insist on using safari. Not a great problem I though. Maybe it will help the OP have a rant about silly requirements for courses. :P

Not like I've made the only post on this thread that could be considered pointless anyway.

Now now. Temper temper. Even my head has a point. I'm also curious if there are web pages that can only be viewed or used with Safari. Jonny, have you tried viewing the pages with another browser? Firefox? Chrome? Operal? Was there are problem? Do you really need Safari to look at those pages? If not use something else. We won't tell anybody that you did.
ciao,
jdk

Hmm. I don't know if any other browser will open the pages I need for class I was just informed that it was a requirement for the online classes. When they start on the 29th I will know more. Right now I am using Iceweasle, Chrome, Epiphany, and Midori.

Have you given any consideration to asking them? If you're paying for the course, you should be able to get a response with some accurate information and reasons for requirements. They might have very valid reasons for them, don't know.

Curious? Is Knoppix a requirement also? Installed to hard drive? I noticed recently at the Knoppix site they explain in detail why they do not recommend installing Knoppix to a hard drive. It wasn't designed for it. Of course, in the next paragraph they start explaining how to do it.

not a requirement

No Knoppix is not a requirement I am just using it temporarliy because my hard drive is crashed and its the only os that has the juice to work on it. I will be upgrading pretty soon with some savings but that will be another month. I'm thinking about this:GIGABYTE Z68 Overclocking Barebones Kit - GIGABYTE GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 Motherboard, Intel Core i5-2500K Unlocked CPU, Corsair 4GB DDR3 RAM, Seagate 1TB HDD, 24x DVDRW, CoolerMaster Tower Case, 600W PSU. From tigerdirect but I have a few questions about drivers before I purchace it. Plus I want to know more about their waranty. But my point is I will switch to Fedora or Pandora when I do get a new one. I will contact the school tomorrow and ask why there is a requirement for Safari.

There are 2 ways you can get safari. Try Midori Webbrowser (it's in webkit)or try downloading Safari for windows and try running it on wine.

I am still very sceptical about this. I have never heard of a website that is only usable with Safari. Has anyone ever experienced such a website? If so would you kindly post the link to it?
thanks,
jdk

Thge reason for Safari

I asked the school why Safari was needed and the reason is, when tests are taken they have a program that notifies them if another tab is opened or if you use another window to cheat. I couldn't get the name of the program they are using but Safari is neccissary for online classes.

The school is probably sniffing the user agent string for the browser ID. But Safari seems to be a strange choice, as it's definitely a minority browser.
