How do I install Linux from Win2000 laptop with out floppy or CD?

I have a IBM ThinkPad 560x with win2000 on 4GB hard drive, and 802.11b nic. I want to install linux on second partition 2GB. There is no cd-rom or floppy drives available. My network does have a computer with Red Hat 8.0 on it.

You can boot from dos to install redhat.
I have tried rh7.2, rh8.0, and 9.0.
In that case, you should put the *.iso files in fat file system partition.
it seems the redhat installation system can't fint the *.iso files that live in ntfs partition.

Cool

Greetings!

You said you do have access to a linux box over lan, why not set up an ftp server on this box and do an installation via ftp? SuSE does have such an option and I'm quite sure RH must have something similar. At least this was the easiest solution for me when I had a similar problem.

You really seem to have quite an issue with starting an installation environment though... I don't see any way to do this without any floppy- or cd-drive. Maybe there is a way of booting over the lan but I can't think of one...

That doesn't mean there is none, some guru can surely help you with that!

Good luck!

You can't. You have to boot from a win98 installation cdrom or a bootdisk. This will provide you with a dos prompt.
