How do I install a .bin file

I'm running Kubuntu 7.04. I downloaded Java for Linux and it's a .bin file. How do I install it? Please give me the commands with the following file name included:

jre-6u3-linux-i586.bin

Many thanks.

You must make the file executable

chmod 755 jre-6u3-linux-i586.bin

then run the file

./jre-6u3-linux-i586.bin

This should give you a license to agree to, and more instructions.

HTH

Note: You may want to run it with enhanced privileges (sudo or su) that is if you want it to be installed system-wide.

Java should be in the repositories; don't bother with installing it manually unless you know how to make it fully integrate with the rest of your system, something that the repository version will take care of for you.
