How do I configure a BT Hub5-N568 as WiFi Extender?

I recently upgraded my WiFi to a BT Hub6-8F26 from a BT Hub5-N568. I now want to use my old Hub5 as an extender to strengthen the Wifi signal at the far end of our apartment. I have all the wall socket plugins in place and now I need to configure the old Hub5. How do I do that? Most youtube videos on the subject are connecting from a Windows computer and don't explain step for step for the Linux (mint 18.3) user.
Help would be appreciated, thanks.

gael.

gael33,

Regardless of the operating system it is possible to set up a wireless access point using an old router.

The two routers are connected either by an ethernet cable or by powerline networks.

I would recommend using an ethernet cable first, just to make sure everything works okay before using network adapters.

I hope this article gives you a better idea of what is required:

NB Log in to your new router and write down all relevant details including SSID, WPA2 settings, encryption type and passphrase etc.

By the way, you may find this Wifi Analyser App useful:
