Question hotmail and m$ messenger

For some unexplained reason, access to hotmail accounts and Gaim's messenger application are not happening at the moment. I've recently installed RedHat 8 on all clients on a LAN at a language school and all was fine until yesterday, when the connection attempt simply timed itself out. Both applications had been working perfectly up to that point.
I had previously asked about Asian character support. Thanks for the help, but I have a few more questions. I would like, if possible to limit Japanese/Korean/Chinese character support to typing for the sake of e-mails and for viewing sites. Is it possible, and if so, how can I get in there and get busy?
Also, thanks for the heads up on my previous question to those who answered, your help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Trev
