hosting a website on RHEL5


Dear Friends

I am new to Linux and I have given the responsibility to host our company's website on linux server RHEL5 I want to know important steps
to follow to achive this successfuly . My expertise in Apple...UNIX etc..

You should install (maybe you already have) httpd, which is also called Apache. The configuration files are in /etc/httpd, the main configuration file is /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf - open it with a text editor and modify contents. By default it has a lot of comments to guide. If you don't understand an option, then keep it unchanged.

Basically you will have to add your own IP address and define at least your default hosted site. But even without a custom site definition it will bring up some default contents from /var/www/html. Go to apache.org and read the documentations and any tutorial you can get.
