Its quite simple really. First make sure that the linux machine has an sshd ot telnet daemon running. You can check this by looking at what processes are running with the "ps" utility. Then, on the windows box with putty, fill in the relevant details, save them for future use, and when you want to connect, choose the configuration you want from the main window, select it, and hit the "open" button. The minimum things you will need to set up for an ssh connection are 1) the IP/FQDN of the box you want to connect to, 2) Select port 22 instead of the default 23, 3) select a username. You might also want to check out the SSH section of the putty config incase you need to select which version of the protocol tyo use etc.
