Angry Help ? my fedora 3 can't shutdown


My fedora 3 linux can't reboot and halt .....it just takes forever to work .

in command line,it said .....now computer is ready to halt or rebooting....................................

then, nothing happen ???

i must reset my computer or press power key on the pc everytime ??


and of course,unclean files system........!!!

Your kernel or motherboard does not support ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) (or it is turned off in the BIOS?). Without ACPI, linux cannot turn off your computer for you. I don't know what kernel you are using, and I don't know how FC3 does things, but if you can figure out how to enable ACPI that should solve your problems.

The other, temporary option is to shutdown like you would normally do. When it says "now computer is ready to halt or rebooting", as you put it, then and only then push the power button. If you always wait until linux tells you it is ready to shutdown, you will never have to worry about unclean files systems (unless your distro is messed up in some odd/rare way).
