Hard Drive Size

Hello to all,

Because we are switching to the resource hogging Windows XP at work, we are obsoleting any computer that can't hack it. They average 233-300 mhz processors, 64mb RAM, and 2 Gig hard drives. Will the hard drive size permit a decent installation of any of the Linux flavors available? Main uses will be web surfing and just a printer hookup. I want to use one of these to get my feet wet with Linux.

yes certainly. you can install a useful working linux system on a gig if you are a bit picky abuot what you install, 2 gigs... certainly worth doing. and the speed is good enough to use Xwindows with a lightweight manager like WindowMaker or BlackBox.

you'll be fine with most distros, but like i said, you will probably want to be as picky as you can about what you install. But it's easy to remove anythign afterwards anyway, esp if you go with rpm distros, eg. redhat or mandrake.

Surely a 333 would run a full on WM like sawmill. Certainly my p2 350 runs it fine.

well, my p200 doesn't like gnome w/ sawmill, goes like a brick w/ 64mb. just my experience. Maybe it's the Hull air that makes it work good?

hmm.. i always thought Hull was near Bristol, ever since that blackadder episode.. the german spy one...

Hull is nowhere near Bristol, bristol southwest, Hull Northeast, but then when I lived in Sydney, guys there thought Brisbane was near (>1000km).
