hard disk not cleanly unmounted RHEL5

Hi,

I'm trying to auto mount a hard disk during bootup. Hence I added a line in /etc/fstab:

/dev/hdc1 /media/User1 ext2 defaults 1 2

Did a proper reboot.
When RHEL5 was loading, it said that the hard disk was not cleanly unmounted, check forced. Takes forever to run the check on a 500GB hard disk.

Did a search, several commented that the hard disk might have bad sectors, but I just got a new disk.

Any suggestions?

hard disk cleanly unmounted in RHEL5

I suggest that you do run the command fdisk -l to see all the hard drives that are recognised by your system.
If all is fine with your hard drive you should be able to see an entry for it.

Also the following line in your fstab tries to mount the first partition on the hard drive /dev/hdc: dev/hdc1 /media/User1 ext2 defaults 1 2

You can only make use of the above entry if you can detect your hard drive first, create the partition, format the partition and finally put the entry in /etc/fstab to mount the partition automatically each time the system boots

Hope it helps

Can you try changing last two digits of your fstab to 0 0? That might solve your problem.
