grub rescue does not work after installing peppermint on netbook

I have a old netbook Asus EEEPc and try to install peppermint (32-bit) but unfortunately it stops at grub command when I start up. I tried to restore the grub but after the command: linux / boot vnm lin...etc. I get the message: kernel does not support 64-bit CPUs. I can only start the system with the live usb in the netbook. Anyone any suggestions how to pusue this? Thx in advance.

If you can boot Linux from the Live USB drive, what do you see when you issue:
Code:
$ cat /proc/cpuinfo
That'll tell you exactly what CPU you have.

I know next to nothing about the Atom processor other than its low power consumption and it comes in 32-bit and 64-bit varieties. If you're getting a message about not supporting 64-bit CPUs, I'd suggest finding a 64-bit Live image and install from that. I know from experience that its possible to install a 32-bit Linux (Slackware) on a 64-bit Celeron. (I correctly that problem once I realized my "Oops! Wrong DVD" mistake.) This may not be possible with an Atom.

HTH...

well the 32-bit mint should have come with a 32-bit kernel

perhaps somecow you downloaded the wrong rescue disk

get a 32bit grub rescue disk

you said you can boot live-usb (i hope that's a 32bit live), i hope that means you get access to mounting your HD (and so, your able, with a new rescue disk, to put in the kernel and disk parameters for grub at the grub prompt)

now - you should be able to boot your 32bit live, mount your HD, and *hopefully* run grub to make yourself a new grub disk (rescue, well, i dunno)

FIST THING: your 32bit mint SHOULD have a pre-made rescue disk for you to find somewhere to use (ie, not the one with a 64bit kernel) - and you should try that

It was a BIOS problem, boot order was not good, I changed it. And now it works. Thx for the replies.
