Group ownership with domain users

Nevermind. Brain fart. I just need to double quote.

Hello,

We have this application that users log onto the website (RStudio) by authenticating to Active Directory. When files are created from the GUI, the back-end show the following group name 'domain users'.

On occasions I helped the users (workaround large files) upload using sftp to my account and then copied them over to the user. The files are shown as root:root. I can change ownership to the individual but can't change the group to 'domain users'. Note the nov2015.tab and dec2015tab.

<before change>

root@rserver:/home/XXX.EDU/chatcher251# ls -l
total 18686556
-rw-r--r-- 1 chatcher251 domain users 14851570961 May 4 01:30 2017.statistics.tab
-rw-r--r-- 1 chatcher251 domain users 3729968662 May 4 00:53 arxiv-metadata-oai-snapshot.json
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 374759773 May 4 20:36 dec2015.tab
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 178710989 May 4 20:36 nov2015.tab
drwxr-xr-x 3 chatcher251 domain users 4096 May 2 23:32 R
drwxr-xr-x 2 chatcher251 domain users 4096 May 4 04:25 scihub

<after change>

root@rserver:/home/XXX.EDU/chatcher251# ls -l
total 18686560
-rw-r--r-- 1 chatcher251 domain users 14851570961 May 4 01:30 2017.statistics.tab

-rw-r--r-- 1 chatcher251 root 374759773 May 4 20:36 dec2015.tab
-rw-r--r-- 1 chatcher251 root 178710989 May 4 20:36 nov2015.tab

So, is this problem now "solved?"

You've got Group name with a space in it ??

That is just going to continue to cause trouble as the *nix convention for cmds etc is that a space represents separate params ...
It IS possible to always put quote marks around it, BUT you cannot afford to miss even once - think eg of automated processes & assumptions of other users/admins.

Just re-create a non-space name.

The configurations have it authenticated to Active Directory which the "domain users" were automatically created for first time users who logged in.
