Some of the micro stuff like puppy, dsl, slitax and antix might work well enough.

HaikuOS might work OK too.

The problem here is that the power it draws almost makes a 3 year ownership not worth it anymore if you live in a high electric area and use air conditioning. They are making small computers that have both android and windows 10 on them for under $100 that draw almost no current and would beat the pants off this. They should convert to linux I'd think too.

Thanks jefro. I never thought about the power thing. Interesting. (Another good reason not to keep it.) Got a link (as an example) for one of those android/windows 10 computers for under $100?

I usually search for bay trail atom. Amazon and other places have what is basically a tablet computer without battery or screen.

This is simply an example. I have not tried this computer or the company selling. http://www.tinydeal.com/Wintel-Windo...FQ5rfgodtksDWg

New gizmos's each day. More than I have money for.

If you have time you can try the smaller distro's on that box and see how you like it.

Hi.

As a kid I remember my dad joking about putting a TV in every room of the house, now it's computers.
I limit myself to a few cl old ones mostly in storage or as furniture no power consumption that way.

Heh it specs about the same (better) then the dell inspiron 1150 laptop that I still use to watch youtube on. Same CPU, twice as much ram on yours. Although it's only on when doing so and by no means my primary computer.

If it has functionality that you don't have on something else, keep it (not to imply use it). Parallel port, firewire, IDE (PATA) connectors, PCI slots and other things that modern stuff lacks. Or as spare parts, I grubbed a capacitor off an old motherboard for an asus rt-n16 that blew a cap. That saved me $80 for buying a replacement router.

Although I tend to like the newer stuff better. Fanless, low power, low heat output, and such. That old stuff burns soo many watts and turns your room into a sauna. It's cheap to get, but the new stuff pays for itself in the electric bill.

And then there are often compatibility issues or it won't run the latest software. Yeah, penny-wise, pound-foolish.

I'm currently using 44 GB of my 1 TB on my desktop, so you could probably manage with 37 GB. The system itself should run great with any Linux distro.
