GnomeBaker's "rules" for recording

I'm trying to install the latest version of Ubuntu 6.04 Dapper Drake.

I needed to make a new partition for /home

To that end I tried to download GParted. Can't happen due to another problem, being addressed in another post.

So I decided to back up to CD my /home.

Fired up GnomeBaker. What I received is below, cut in size by about 75% :

INFO: UTF-8 character encoding detected by locale settings.

What gives with this? I'm making a data CD, and the above keeps mentioning mkisofs -- make an iso file system? Why?

So did you install it?
Some packages can cry for dependencies even when you don't need them.

Jens:

I will respond to your post's question after this:

I was seeking a way to copy all of my /home files & folders onto a CD so that when I installed Dapper Drake, I would not lose the nearly 1.5 Gbytes of data I had accumulated. I cannot guess why html files, odt files, wav, pdf or other types of would have "dependencies".

Eventually I was able to install Dapper Drake (Ubuntu 6.04LTS) but the install did completely overwrite the entire partition where previous versions of Ubuntu, OpenOffice, FireFox etc. had resided.

By packages people mean software (In your case DEP binaries). The ISO9660 filesystem(created by the mkisofs package) is a common format for creating data CDs.

Of course it did. What else did you expect it to do?
