what means "no rules to build the target"?

Hi, I am using motor as an IDE under bash (my X does not work). While when I tried to build a target, a message comes up by "no rules to build the target". What does it mean? Do I miss something? Thank you for any reply.

Woo, thank you acid_kewpie.
Would you give me some hints or suggestion on how to create the Makefile (correct one)? Many thanks.

well it depends what kind of compilation framework you're using. if you've alreayd got a standard ./configure script ready then you'd need to run it to generate a makefile, otherwise you'd need to create the configure manually too.. look into autoconf and automake if needed.
