gnome nautilus scripts

I've d/led a couple of nautilus scripts and put them in the appropriate directory, /home/<me>/.gnome2/nautilus-scripts. So far so good.
Even better, they show up in the context menu (right-click, select scripts menu option, select script to run).
And when they run they can do the usual scripty things OK, eg mv files.
The d/led scripts need to get environment-type strings from nautilus, eg NAUTILUS_SCRIPT_CURRENT_URI but unfortunately seem to be unable to do so.
Any ideas?
