glxisdirect failed

I seem to have problems running GL stuff on my laptop. I have the built in intel extreme card and am using the i810 driver. All the GL screensavers are very slow and if I try to run a GL program like 3ddesktop i get the error glXIsDirect failed, no Direct rendering possible!
Ive tried installing xlibmesa-gl and libgl1-mesa-dri with no luck :-(
Im using Debian unstable, kde 3.4.2
