I have got Star Office to work under the root password, However my users cannot use it. It is in the /usr folder and appears in the application menu for the users. Upon clicking the icon nothing happens. I am convinced it is a permissions problem but the permissions are 0755 for the soffice file.

Any help appreciated

Try setting the permissions this way:

chmod o+rwx /(whatever the path is)

If it doesn't work then try changing the owner by:

chown (whatever) /(path).

Or you may want to create a group and assign users to that group.

From the sun site before I even installed StarOffice, they recommend to set the permissions to 777. Full Access.

And my regular users seem to work fine under it.

chmod 777

Try that can see what happens.

Server Client issue!

This is a probably a question of server and client. Staroffice allows you to do a network install. If you choose to do this then you will have to install a client-part, just a few meg in size, for every user.
