Getting Linux to recognize my windows network

Howdy,

I'm running red hat linux, as well as Windows XP on the same system. My network works fine on XP. but I don't have the first clue how set it up in Linux so I can have internet access. I thought I might have to use a program called samba, but I can't find it on my system. Can anyone help a total newbie?

Hi, and welcome to LQ.

To utilise windoze' network facilities from Linux
you will need samba, namely the smbclient. It
depends on which distribution you chose how it's
best set-up.

Do you need to share files or get on the internet?

First and foremost, I just want to get internet access. Being able to share files with the other windows machines onthe network would be nice too though.

How is internet set-up at your site? A router, or
is one of the windows machines acting as a gateway?
