Question GCC Installation Instructions.

Hello,

I presently run SuSE 5.3 with a kernel version of 2.0.35. I would like to upgrade to the current kernel release, but this requires an upgrade of GCC also (2.7.2.1 to 3.0.1). I could resolve these issues by rebuilding the system with a more current Linux release, but I would not be learning new material.

Short of rebuilding the system, does someone have a good reference on how to upgrade GCC? I have looked at the Linux GCC How-To, but it was dated and assumes the end-user has a good working knowledge of the GCC environment. A clear, consise overview would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Hotrider.
