if you can connect to the internet but can't connect to gaim because of an "incorrect password," it's probably not a gaim problem. make sure you've got your proxy server setup right in gaim, if you use one that is.

if that still doesn't work, request your password with "forgot password" and make sure it's the right one. or you can create a new account to test it.

being on a lan generally doesn't cause problems like this, as i am on a lan and have setup systems before on lans that could connect to gaim right off the bat.

Unhappy

I have the proxy settings right and the password is also correct.

It connects from other computers in the network but not mine.

what service are you trying to log into?

sometimes yahoo and others change protocol often to force gaim and other messenger users to use only their software.

*edit:
wait, that doesn't make any sense if you can connect on other computers. still worth a shot maybe.

btw, can you even connect to the internet on your machine?

i still say you should triple check your password and check the preferences on gaim carefully.

ok, this is about all i can think of now. and i think it's it:

1) what version of gaim are you using on your computer?
2) what version of gaim did you successfully logon with on the other computer?

try downgrading to 0.81 if possible, or use yahoo's official linux messenger client.

i thought it would've been the other way around, with the newer version being more compatible.... oh well.
