FTP only users for vsftpd.

Heres what I want to do.

Creat users that can only use there user name for ftp
I want there home directory to be /mnt/store/user

*user being what every user name I create

Any idea's how to do this? I've been researching user management for a few days now and no luck so far.

Thanks.

Steps that could be used to accomplish this task:

1. Create the user.
2. Make their home directory /mnt/store/user
3. Give them a false or invalid shell by making their default shell /bin/false and adding that as their shell in /etc/passwd
4. Add /bin/false to /etc/shells file.
5. chroot them to /mnt/store/user if you do not want them to access any other directory on your system.

This will jail them to the FTP home directory specified, not giving them any type of shell access if you have telnet, ssh or any other type of login accessible.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, helps a lot. I had read about doing /bin/false but didn't understand the concept, now I do.

How do you change the attributs, or permissions for a user and direcotry? When I change my home directory for a user to /mnt/store/ftp/username I have read only attributs. If i change it to /home/username I have read write remove attributs.

Thanks again.
