Firefox won't start

Hi!
I have this very odd problem. I've had Firefox installed for a while, everything worked fine. Problems came when I updated my Firefox. It was all messed up, my Home Page setting didn't work at all, it just went to the Firefox site upon opening, etc. So I uninstalled Firefox, than re-installed it. Now it just starts when I'm root, not as my normal user. How is this odd problem solvable?

The attributes of firefox might be changed when updating it. Just open a shell, and type:

chmod 777 /diroffirefox/

to let it be read, written executed and read by all users and usergroups

You can also right click the preferred files, select properties and then change the mods for it (there should be a button called 'advanced' where you can set all the options of access to each user(group). Make sure that 'users' can read and execute it.

Thanks for your reply. But it doesn't do it... Still the same problem. I logged on as root, using su in the terminal, typed in chmod 777 /usr/bin/ and nothing happened.

Did you change your homepage settings within Firefox?

Yes I did. That was not the only problem. After the update all my bookmarks were gone (but that maybe a bit acceptable after an upgrade). But my homepage was set to http://www.google.nl and when I started Firefox it would start with a blank page. When I pressed the home button it would go to the Mozilla site.

..did you try resetting all that info and if so, what was the outcome?

I resetted the homepage to blank, than after a Firefox restart, when I started it, it would open a blank, but after clicking on the home button, the same happened, Mozilla site.
So I used my Mandrakelinux Control Center to uninstall Firefox. Than I re-installed it, now it only starts when I'm logged in as root. I just added a rule in my Control Center saying that my user has all permissions on the Firefox executable file, still the same problems.
