Hi, I recently installed Fedora 12 but Firefox will not launch now so I downloaded from Mozilla and installed the latest version using Vista but it still will not work yet I can download emails and go online using the live cd. Any suggestions? Thanks Allan

What errors did you get?
And how did you install after downloading?

what do you mean by "I recently installed Fedora 12 but Firefox will not launch "

What did you do before this.

if you use the mozilla download you will need to uninstall the fedora firefox rpm. this will of course take about 1/2 of the OS with it if you do not use the -- nodep option
then BLACKLIST firfox in yum .

as to the mozilla install it installs in it's own folder ( lib/firefox)
did you add this folder to your system path as stated in the install instructions.

John VV, Firefox was working find but now when you click on it you see at bottom tray "Starting Firefox" but then after 20 or so seconds it just stops loading and removes itself from the bottom tray.

I have not uninstalled firefox as yet as I thought I would get help first. The mozilla firefox download I have extracted from the flash drive and have not tried to use as yet and I have not added this to the system path. It wasn't RPM but Taz something as I could not find RPM version update.

Hi John,
When I try from the terminal #firefox %u I get "Could not find compatible GRE between version 1.9.1.4 and 1.9.1.4 When I try /var/log/yumlog I get no such file or directory I tried firefox/var/log/yumlog with the same answer so I tried to search yum log and came up with "installed gtkhtml2, gtkhtml2-devel" "updated powertop" "updated powertop-updated kernal". Does any of this help or would it be easier to install it again? Thanks.

How did you install fedora 12 and firefox?
Firefox is installed with fedora 12 by default.

Hi Cola, I downloaded Fedora 12 from the internet onto vista then copied to disk and then restarted computer with the disk in and followed the instructions and up till 2 weeks ago after I had come back from holiday Firefox no longer worked so I have no idea what my sons would have tried but they usually just go to vista. Cheers

fedora is a R & D ( research & development ) distro
updates DO and can brake it

reinstall
or do not use a testing R&D operating system

well "something got installed -- or -- uninstalled

for firefox to stop working.

it is possible that firefox was set to " auto install" updates
if so there would be no yum entry and firefox would now be installed in two folders ( two installs of it )

Hi John, I went through all the folders and there was only the one Firefox the other one was still on my flash drive and was not installed. I know everything was working before I went on holiday but the yum log only had from the 13th of April, please see below, then yesterday it downloaded more but I still could not get firefox to launch. I will play around with it for another day or so then maybe install an older version. When I used the terminal #/var/log/yum.log I received "Permission denied" but I had no trouble when opening the folder.
