File copy from a mounted sever

All: I have mounted a Windows 2003 server share to my Ubuntu 7.10 ftp server. I have put multiple folders within the windows share. I have set all the windows permissions to full access. Both share and file permissions. I can browse the mounted folder within my ftp server fine. But I cannot transfer files from the mounted folder. All the other folders with in the FTP server are fine and I have no problems uploading or downloading files from them. Only the mounted folder.
Things I've done: Set chown -R to the ftp user act on that folder. Set chmod to 777 -R on that folder. Edited the fstab for the mounted file system. Rebooted multiple times

I would appreciate any help. I have run out of ideas.
Thanks in advance.

I hope/suppose/confident/feel that a mounted folder from a remote server (other than a SAN) cannot be used as a root directory for the ftp server or a web server..

this is something like a win2003 share is mapped locally and a folder within the mapped drive is shared (this is not possible-- cheked practically)

correct me if i am wrong
