Fedora Core3: Problem in connecting internet

Hi everyone there,

Here is my system report.
Intel Pentium4
OS: Linux Fedora Core3 and WinXP

I am facing problem in connecting internet through gateway in linux. I have tried everything almost but failed. The following is the content of the file useful to you for identifying the problem.

file: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
DEVICE=eth0
USERCTL=no
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTPROTO=none
BROADCAST=192.168.1.255
NETWORK=192.168.1.0
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
IPADDR=192.168.1.26

file: /etc/sysconfig/network
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=asifqa.abacus

Remember, I can ping the other system in my LAN successfully, but cann't connect internet. I can ping my gateway as well.

The DSN setting is also fine, but nslookup command does not work.

I have used system-config-network command to perform all settings.

Plz help me as it is really bothering me.

Thanks in advance

Are your ISPs nameservers listed in /etc/resolv.conf?
Code:
; generated by /sbin/dhclient-script
nameserver 205.244.112.20
nameserver 206.74.254.2
nameserver 207.40.113.20
nameserver 204.116.57.2
Is /etc/hosts correct?
Code:
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1       uilleann        localhost.localdomain   localhost
192.168.0.1     modem
192.168.0.2     bones
192.168.0.3     tinwhistle
192.168.0.4     uilleann

yes, the /etc/resolve.cnf has following contents:

; generated by /sbin/dhclient-script

i think so, these are the DNS servers, i have also set in xp

and the contents of /etc/hosts is:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain asifqa localhost
192.168.1.25 proto

Can you identify the bottleneck with traceroute?

when i run 'traceroute yahoo.com'; it returned:

traceroute: unknown host yahoo.com

nslookup command also failed.

What to do?

Will it be possible for you to be online in yahoo or msn.....

My id is asifqaiyum@yahoo.com or asifqaiyum@hotmail.com....by the way

I am very disappointed with this situation.

Thanks in advance

Sorry, I am out of ideas, unless your gateway has you blocked.

Mine worked out of the box on my install, but I don't use a gateway.

Try to "ping" or better "traceroute" to some host given by IP, instead by host name. If it works, then your problem is in the name resolution - either you incorrectly set your namerservers, or they are not working correctly. But given the fact, that you have 4 of them, it's improbable all of them to be down. So, I suppose the problem is in the router and "traceroute" will fail after the gateway. Check if "ping" to a remote IP gives "Network unreachable", your router's NAT settings, the cables, the firewall settings (particularly the DNS service port), in this order.
