Fedora 6 CHAR login to GUI login

Hi,

As my desktop was freezing while Fedora Core 6 GUI install, I happened to succeed through Text install and was successful in making dual boot with XP.

I am wondering if I can change the way to login from Char to GUI.

hi,
Quote:
Char to GUI.
Char means?

Do u point mutiusermode or init 3
To get to X or GUI as default do,

open /etc/inittab
find the line

id:3:initdefault:

3 is the mutliusermode, change it to 5, so that it look like

id:5:initdefault:

Thanks Nirmal,

However, I land up in another issue, it gets to the login screen, upon entering username & password it tries to open the GUI, but blinks twice and returns back to the login screen.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Regards
Kallimath

hi,
is it the case for all the users including root?
have u checked the free space in home or tmp directory?
Does it have enough free space?

post the output of df -h

At boot time in grub, u shall append 3 to kernel to boot into multiusermode.Boot the sytem in multiuser mode.Login using any user to virtual console and enter command

startx gnome

i will try for ur X session. And for Errors i will give the reason in you terminal.
post the error back.

regards,
Nirmal Tom.
