facing probleb with software retreive information


hi,........

i have recently installed fedora 8 thorough DVD.i don't have internet connection .As you know fedora is not vlc player preinstalled.i have downloaded videolan_client as rpm package from net.But wen i
issue the following command:
$yum install <vlc rmp file name>
i get the following error:

Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mir...hide&arch=i386 error was
[Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (-3, 'Temporary failure in name resolution')>
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: development. Please verify its path and try again

thankx in advance,post the soln early .[/FONT][/FONT]

yum assumes you have a network connection so it can contact repos. Try installing with rpm

Code:
$ rpm -ivh <vlc rmp file name>
Alternatively yum has an option to specify that the file you are installing is on the disk, local-install instead of install I think, though I'm not on a Linux machine right now to check. 'man yum'*will tell you,
