expanding core components

after a rough few years with windows i've decided to give linux another try. someone i know suggested i try Puppy. i downloaded Precise Puppy 5.3 and burned it to cd. now amazingly i can run my entire os off a cd in half the amount of time it takes to launch windows from the hard disk. and i don't even have to install, figures..
anyways i was reading something about core linux. and the ability to expand it and do more things. i like puppy because it's so small and lightweight. but i'd like to know the details on this CORE thing.
how complicated is it? and can i do that with this distro?
i know i could just get a different distro but i have to live with a 2gb data cap now :/

I assume that you mean Tinycore, which is a distribution on its own, not a concept to be used on other distros. It comes with a really minimal system, that only contains a very simple GUI and a package manager, so that you can extend it with software to exactly the system you need.
More info here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/

ahhh i see.
i thought it was a concept, not a distro itself.

Not sure about the GUIs, but you should be able to install software using its package manager.
