Question Executing a *.bin file remotely on Linux

Hi,
I have purchased a hosting plan and discovered their support is not at all helpful.

As such, I'm looking to remotely install the LAMP stack remotely on a web server running Red Hat 7.3.

I've been able to download the *.bin file and FTP it to the root directory. I've changed the permissions using the FTP client to 755.

However, I cannot understand how to execute it as most documentation is based on a local version of linux. What software do I need to execute the ./file.bin command?

Any help/pointers/URLs will be VERY much appreciated (my Linux knowledge is very limited).

Thanks,
Andrew

Welcome to LQ!

You need a shell to execute. FTP is what it says it is, file transfer protocol. Use SSH to log on to the server. Anyway, RH 7.3 is terribly old.

Edit: You can expect security problems with unsupported GNU/Linux versions, newer software will not run, etc.

I believe your next task is to find a new hosting company. There is really no way around it, you either have to have shell access or the hosting company has to provide you with the components of the LAMP stack already installed and ready to go. By the way, unless you have root access to the hosting machine, installing software like MySQL is going to be difficult to impossible. And as Emerson said, RH 7.3 is ancient, unsupported, and probably a disaster just waiting to happen.
