hello all... am i retarted? perhaps... i've run into a probably very simple issue with getting the syslog daemon to even start. never mind listen to port 514 (which i think i'll be able to do once i can get the daemon to run) am i missing something? i was under the impression that /etc/init.d/sysklogd start would start the syslog process... BUT the output of ls -ef | grep sys is nothing more than:
Code:
root 28782 1 0 May13 ? 00:00:00 /sbin/mdadm --monitor --pid-file /var/run/mdadm/monitor.pid --daemonise --scan --syslog
now, i dont know what that means (sorry, still an extreme newbie) but,
i'd appreciate any help... including but not limited to: telling me i need to do my homework--telling me what the above process means, telling me how to confirm the PID of syslog (perhaps its listed with something other than sys in the name) any insight is of course appreciated. thanks
