Question /etc/init.d & /etc/xinit.d

What is the difference between the /etc/init.d & /etc/xinit.d
given the names i assume that xinit runs when you initate xwindows where as init.d runs when you are at the CLI?

Can someone clear this up for me...

You do seem to be unclear. init is a process management daemon, while xinit is for initializing the X window system.
Pick a good book on Linux like Rute's

Cool

Did you perhaps mean the /etc/xinetd.d or /etc/xinet.d area? That would be something else... an area where configurations for the xinetd network daemon live. This one is designed to start services on demand so they don't have to run and listen for incoming connections all the time. Just in case that this is what you meant ... mlp
