embedded samba client

Hi,

I'm trying to find a way to mount a folder that is on a remote location on the same manner Samba does it but which takes less disk space. I don't need all of the features Samba has neither.
Samba is already real small, but I'm looking for a way in which the executable would be as small as possible. When I was going over some websites, I've found some topics but they didn't quite answer the need. Most were Samba Servers.
I need it so I would be able to put most of the data on the remote location.

Does someone have any experience in working with/compiling a Samba-like client (for embedded devices -best case-) ?

Kind regards,

Bart Garrein

How small are we talking about here? You can simply compile Samba without the functions/features you don't need, but without a clear target size, it is hard to say if that will be enough.

Hi,

First of all, I'll take a look at Samba itself too. But I was wondering if there was something like "embedded Samba". Because when I googled, all I found was a few individuals that had made their own specific form of "embedded Samba". Most of them where a compiled form of smbd and nmbd. One had something called Tinysmb.

The purpose is to run a Samba client on an embedded board which runs linux. I need to be able to connect to an off-board location using the network to go fetch the rest of the code, for which I don't have memory space on the board itself.

As for size, the ideal would be zero bit of course, but a realistic form should be 4MB.

Kind regards,

Bart Garrein
