Editing host file

Hello all. I want to edit my host file (/etc/hosts). But i cannot seem to do it the way it is being described on some posts. I am very new to Linux (yesterday new), so i know i have some learning to do. I am using Ubuntu 9.10. A good step by step would be nice. Thank you

Welcome,
Not clear on what your having trouble with. Can't save it? Don't know how to edit it?
anyway to open so you can edit and save
press alt+f2 (run dialog)
Code:
gksudo gedit /etc/hosts
Its a pretty simple file - bring up the man pages in a terminal window
Code:
man hosts
