Dual booting

I've set up a dual boot of Red Hat 9 and Windows XP professional on my hard drive. I'll log into Windows XP, reboot my machine, and then go into Red Hat. When it's booting sendmail hangs for about 30 seconds, and instead of local.localdomain it says welcome to my Windows computer name. I have to reboot, and then log back into Red Hat for it to say local.localdomain again. Also, I booted Knoppix std off of a cd, and then rebooted, and when I booted into Red Hat it said welcome to knoppix. How do I fix this?

I have a 120 gb hardrive. I first installed Windows XP on the whole hard drive. I then used Partition expert, and resized the partition to 80 gb, so I'd have some free space for Red Hat. I put in the Red Hat cd, and when I got to the partition part, I just had Red Hat partition automatically. It said something about the /boot record like you may not be able to boot into Red Hat. After I was done installing, I had the regular Red Hat partition, the swap partition, with the Windows XP partition. I had a Linksys wrt54g router plugged into my ethernet card for both installations. Did I do this wrong?
