dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the prob


hello every one
i run the following command to install jdk
sudo aptitude install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin
i got the following error
unable to open lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open
plzzzzz help me
after this i typed the following command
rm lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock
synaptic manager is not working it is giving the following error
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

Post run 'dpkg --configure -a'

hello every one
i run the following command to install jdk

open a terminal, login as root and type
Code:
dpkg --configure -a

if the suggested remedy doesn't work, then more than likely you will need to use apt-get or aptitude to remove the offending package. Then re-install and try again. I have had some cases where it was a bit of a challenge to figure out the offending package.
