DNS/Bind Help

Hi,

Have been trying to setup bind/dns for the last couple of days. Have folled online docs and what not, still not working. I keep getting the following error in my message log:

"could'nt open pid file '/usr/var/run/named.pid : No such file or directory"

I have had a look and there is no file. What is it asking for and how do I fix it.

Also I noticed it was asking and trying to find named.conf in /usr/etc but I have it refered to at /var/named and could not see where /usr/etc was coming from. Fixed this by creating a symlink but not sure if this is correct way of fixing it?

Any help, greater points of reference/wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

try running bind like this.

named -c /path/to/named.conf

also the pid....make sure that the user you are trying to run named as has permission to write to that directory, AND make sure that the directory /var/log/run/ is there

If the directory and permissions are OK, create the file (empty) and see what happend when you run bind. But I guess there's something wrong with the permissions.
