Distro suggestions

i am looking for suggestions for a linux distro.

i am running an e-machines T2958 with intel based onboard video and sound
and a 8-in-1 media reader (no floppy).

i have a little experience in linux but not much, am looking for a distro that will support Majority of my hardware, also, am running an ntfs file system.

would like to find either a good dual boot distro to get my feet wet with or a boot from windows partion distro for the same thing.

i have messed a little with redhat, Storm, mandrake, turbo, debian, and Suse linux.

all i am really looking for is a dist with a Gui to go with my command line.
not alot of bells and whistles, just basic compiling, text editing, and modem support.

am currently on a 56k modem with america online so would need a not to enourmous distro.

Any suggestions or even just pointers and advice would be nice.

thanks in advance for any and all help

personally i'd suggest slackware.

it seems like no matter which distribution i try out, i eventually end up going back to slackware. it's kind of magnetic, if you will.

I suggest VectorLinux. Light and fast. Slackware-based. Extremely beautiful logo, awful background.
