I'm sure I waved the login when I installed the latest Mandriva os? It's now appeared and won't move on, but keeps returning when I tap in the correct password?

Any advice please?

You say you can get to a console. Is that from the Mandriva login screen? Are any messages displayed? Can you login as root from the console? (I don't use Mandriva so don't know what their protocols are)

Is this on a fresh (recent) install?

Also would you please expand on the installation, such as version and what selections you made (which desktop), what hardware your system uses (particularly the graphics card), and any other related information you can provide.

If possible can you also include the contents of dmesg.

The install is recent and this problem has just occurred. No messages are displayed unless I tap in the wrong pssword. The correct Local psswd keeps retuning me to the login scrn. I can get to a console from the the login scrn and su to root. i'm sorry I can't recall many of my HW details. But the os is Mandriva 11.04
