Thank you allend,

When I had previously established wireless communication, I had used the following. I will try your version. Funny how none of the Centos documentation says to do so.
Code:
wpa_supplicant -B -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

allend, One (actually two) more things,

You indicated you run a firewall script. Can this be a firewall issue? I can't ping my gateway on wireless, but could when wired, so I don't think so.

Also, could you share your /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0 file with me?

THanks again

Possible but unlikely. The default firewall script I use allows all outgoing traffic and related/established traffic back in, so the DHCP traffic is passed.

Sorry, different distro, so I do not have one of those.

The wpa_supplicant options may need to be tailored to your setup. I find that I need to specify the driver with -Dwext with my hardware.
