Debian on an Inspiron 3000 M200ST

Hi all. First of many newbie questions. I am attempting to put my old Dell Inspiron 3000 (M200ST) back to work using Linux. It is a Pentium 200, 80 mb ram, and 2.1 gb HD. I have attempted to install Debian 3.0 via net install but have had a little trouble getting everything to work. I guess my main question is if this Distro is appropriate for the computer or if I need to look elsewhere. Searches have turned up a lot of other people with problems with this combination so if I am in over my head and my time would be better spent looking at other distros I would like to know before I spend a lot more time on this one.

I suggest Slackware, it's suprisingly fast on my laptop (a 486SX with 4MB of RAM) .
