Exclamation D Link DSL200 USB ADSL modem

I have just installed Slackware 8.0 and am using KDE. I have most things set up to my preference. Just one thing. None of my USB devices work and my USB ADSL modem does not work. I have checked the D link site for drivers but to no avail.

In a very simple way (new to linux) how do i enable USB and get my modem to work? I have checked various threads in this forum but they all have drivers included. Are there any D Link drivers?

One more thing. When I'm in KDE I want to change my refresh rate. I type "xvidtune" in the command and it brings up the monitor settings, but it wont let me change the refresh rate. How do I change the refresh rate to something more reasonable like 85Hz?

Your help will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Scuzi

Alright, since you are using slackware, which is known to be really good if you want to get to know your hardware, you need to configure this all by your self. There is no nice detect almost everything like in Redhat or mandrake. So, you need to recompile your kernel. Select everything to enable USB support. I strongly suggest downloading the 2.4.19 kernel, and starting from there. The USB support on that kernel is superb!, and it will probably help you out since you unfortunately got a USB dsl modem...ethernet ones are better.
Anyway, D Link is your modem brand name??

to change the refresh rate, I suggest you run Xf86config and change it from there. It's better than using any gui interface to change screen resolutions.
good luck.
