Hi all.....I am completely new to this so please be gentle..and I am very much a novice on the tech stuff.

Having read a nice artical I have intsalled CB on my old pc.

I entered a username and password during setup and everything ran fine...rebooted after installation and it asks for the username and password.

NO Matter what i put in the boxes it will not recognise it...just keeps on the black login screen with the message

wrong username or password.

There does not seem to be any way of resetting etc....please help....in laymans terms

You might have mis-typed something when setting up, or you might just have had a bad file: something corrupted in downloading or burning the disk.

CrunchBang, I seem to remember, recommends itself for intermediate users rather than beginners. There are more friendly things out there, and certainly more reliable ones. If you chose it because your computer has a small memory, there are alternatives for that. e.g.
1GB: Mepis or Mint
512MB: SalineOS
256MB: Salix (live CD version)

When you first turn on your computer, you should briefly see the GRUB boot menu. Choose the Rescue Mode option. Once in Rescue mode use the passwd command to set a user's password, for example I would type:

Linux is case-sensitive, so make sure you don't have your caps lock on. Also know the default keyboard for #! is Great Britain, so watch out with special characters. When in doubt try a simple lower-case letter password for troubleshooting purposes.
