crontab vs cron.daily ?

Hi,

This is a questions.

Why is there a cron.daily directory?

How does cron.daily work vs how crontab works?

When do scripts in the cron.daily directory run?
Daily?
When during the day?
Why is there an cron.hourly or a cron.mintuely?

Thanks

I dont' know why. A friend of mine insists on putting everything in to cron.daily instead of roots crontab. I think things run out of there at 4am, that's when the slocate cron goes off anyway.

There's no real difference between the two except to be different.
