Question Creating a hard disk partition using fdisk

As a root user, I create a new hard disk partition using fdisk /dev/sda2

The new partition name created was sdap2 instead of sda3

sdap2 is not listed in the /dev directory, therefore I can not format and mount.

Can anyone help!

Thanks

To create a partition /dev/sda3 the correct command is
Code:
fdisk /dev/sda
It is not
Code:
fdisk /dev/sda2
If you run the second command instead you try to create a partition inside the already existing partition /dev/sda2, which, depending on the filesystem in use, will screw up that partition.

This has some info.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-entry-708623/

As you see from the post, the user listed how one got to the label sdap.

If you have a gui and have or install gparted, it might be more simple to view what you have.
