Create standard desktop for all users in Gnome and KDE

Where do i put application shortcuts for existing users and new users so they appear on their desktop when they login ? Is there a default location to place these files.

Is there another way than having to go into the users ~/.gnome-desktop dir and placing the file there ??

Thanks in advance.

Even if there is another way, saving these icons in /.gnome-desktop may prove a good idea. If this is a situation that you face often, you can write a script to save these icons. Post more details, and we can help you.

IIRC, isn't there a file/directory one can edit that defines what is put in a user's home directory upon account creation? A config file with those icons could be placed there and it'd occur every time an account was created, automatically.
