Did you confirm if your LG Cookie was really recognized as a modem and it is running on ttyUSB0? dmesg command and lsusb command may give some help.

I just ran a command on my terminal:
dmesg |grep tty
And then I found this answer together with a couple other
[24898.296782] usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0
[24898.297513] usb 1-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1
it may help,
what i did on fedora 13 is: [using nokia 6300 classic]
connect and pair my phone through blue-tooth,and then it ask me if i want to use internet via my phone,,then i manually set up the setting,and that's it
